A Fantastic Day at the Farm

15th Jun 2026

On Friday P4/5 went on our end of term trip to CAFRE, Enniskillen where we had lots of fun! As soon as we arrived, we met our guide, Andrew, but before he could properly introduce the day, we were all surprised by a runaway horse charging past us!
We began exploring the farm by moving around different stations. Our first stop was to meet two beautiful horses, Dermot and Blossom and see where they live. We also took part in a “mystery box” activity, having fun guessing what was inside!
At this station, we also stepped onto the weighing scales and discovered our whole class weighed the same as Dermot the horse!
Next, we planted seeds, explored local wildlife, and even tried pond dipping. We then met the farrier, who showed us how horseshoes are made. We were able to hold them and feel just how heavy they are, and we also saw some of the machines used around the farm. Afterwards, we learned about different breeds of sheep and felt their wool, discovering how it varies from one breed to another.
One of the highlights of the day was milking Daisy the cow! We also learned about different breeds of cows and the journey of milk, from farm to table.
Later, we visited the arena to see horses Uno and Cherry, and we also learned about racehorses and the equipment they wear. When we returned to the weighing scales, we were surprised to find that we were lighter than before — all that activity must have worked up our energy!
We played a game of hook-a-duck and another sighting of that runaway horse. To finish the day, we had a go on the simulators — trying out both dressage and racehorse riding, which was an exciting way to end our farm adventure.
It was an incredible trip filled with learning, laughter, and new experiences. A big thank you to Andrew and everyone at the farm for such a wonderful day!
