As part of our fairytale topic, Primary 3 pupils enjoyed exploring The Magic Porridge Pot. We listened to and compared different versions of the story, discussing how the characters and events changed slightly in each one.
To bring the story to life and to link it to our writing, we made our own porridge in class! This helped us understand the steps for our instructional writing. We followed steps carefully and talked about bossy verbs and the importance of order and clarity when giving instructions.
Once the porridge was ready, everyone had the chance to taste it with a drizzle of honey. We then voted on whether we liked it or not, and used the results to talk about our preferences and record our opinions.
It was a warm, tasty way to connect storytelling, writing, and real-life experience!
