This week, in maths, our classroom turned into a hands-on number lab! Using Numicon shapes, the children explored numbers up to 20, sorting them into odd and even groups. But this wasn’t just any sorting activity... we used whiteboard markers to write and draw directly on our desks!
Children worked in pairs and small groups, placing Numicon pieces on the desk and circling, labelling, and doodling around them to show their thinking. There was laughter, teamwork, and lots of “aha!” moments as they discovered patterns and explained their ideas to each other.
By the end of the session, our desks were covered in colourful number trails, odd/even numbers and proud smiles. A brilliant way to make maths meaningful, memorable, and fun!
