World Book Day 2026
Today we had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! The children arrived full of excitement, with many dressed as their favourite book characters and others joining in the fun by wearing their cosy pyjamas for our Big Bedtime Read theme. Everyone looked brilliant, and it was lovely to see such creativity and enthusiasm.
We began our day by sharing and discussing our costumes and the stories they came from. The children loved talking about their characters and books, and we enjoyed hearing all the reasons why those stories are special to them.
Next, we took part in a whole-class parade, visiting each classroom to show off our outfits and tell others all about our favourite books. The pupils were confident, proud, and eager to talk about their reading choices.
Back in class, we got creative by designing our own book covers for the stories we love. The children worked carefully to include important characters, titles, and illustrations—just like real authors and illustrators!
Later in the day, we were joined by Primary 7, who came to do some paired reading with us. The children really enjoyed listening to the older pupils and sharing stories together. It was a lovely chance to build connections and celebrate reading across the school.
We ended our day with a fun Draw with Rob session. Rob, an illustrator, guided us step?by?step through drawing a llama cartoon—and the children were so proud of their amazing artwork!
It was a wonderful day filled with books, imagination, creativity, and lots of smiles.
