Eco Council
Eco Club
We love caring for our school gardens and our environment. In Eco club we are very busy all year with Eco activities and we are excited about sharing what we get up to throughout the year.
Last year we became a Forest School! Every class gets to do Forest School at least once a week. It is so much fun getting into The Thomas Trail in our wellies and learning outside.
Last year we got our Eco-Schools Green Flag Award. We were awarded "Eco School of the year" for all our hard work.
Keep checking this page to see all the amazing things we get up to over the year.
September
September is a busy month for us. We always start by harvesting our potatoes. We had lots of potatoes this year. Big ones and little ones. We found out all about the Life cycle of a potato.
We planted some winter pansies and violas into our pots.
October Ditch the Dark – A Shining Success!
Our Eco Council did a fantastic job organising our Ditch the Dark day, and what a brilliant event it turned out to be! Everyone in school has been learning all about staying safe during the darker nights, and we celebrated with a fun-filled day focused on road safety.
The highlight was our dazzling walk together—flashing lights, high-vis clothing, and torches lighting the way as we made safety shine!
A huge well done to all our costume and poster winners from each class—your creativity lit up the day!
November- Science Club
We had so much fun in science club for 'Children in Need' day. We made our own bubble wands. We tried out different sizes and shapes to find out what worked best. At the end we had a great game of bubble tag!
November- Cash for Clobber
Wow! Look at all the bags that went for textile recycling! The lorry will take away the clothes where they will be sorted out. Some will be resold as "Preloved" and some of the clothes will be recycled into useable fibres. The company pay us for our clobber, so not only have we helped the environment we have also raised money for our school. A big thank you to the Eco Council and P7 boys for helping load the lorry- it was a BIG job!
January-
Finding Birds for the RSPB
P1 and P2 were looking for little winter birds. Throughout January we have been learning about birds and making bird feeders for them. We took part in the Big Schools Bird watch for the RSPB. The Eco Council joined us. They were our team leaders. We brought out bird food to feed the birds. We found lots of little birds. It was very exciting to see them. When we came back to the classroom, we got a big surprise a little robin had come in to find food. We opened the window to let him fly out. We had a great morning.
February- The Big Spring Clean and litter Pick
Today, our Eco Council came together for their final big event of the year: a Spring Clean litter pick around our school grounds. The councillors worked brilliantly as a team, gathering litter that had blown in from outside the school—an important reminder of why it’s so essential to put rubbish in the bin and care for our environment.
After collecting the litter, the Eco Council visited each class to share what they had found and raise awareness about how everyone can help keep our school clean. They also reminded pupils of the many eco?friendly initiatives they have led since September, including promoting our Eco?Code, organising Ditch the Dark Day and Cash for Clobber, taking part in the RSPB Big Bird Hunt, and supporting our Spring Clean activities.
One of our enthusiastic P3 councillors, Hettie, shared her experience:
“I have loved every minute of being an eco councillor. I would recommend everyone to have a go!”
A huge thank you to our dedicated Eco Councillors. Your hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment have made a real difference. You have been amazing!
New Councillors will be elected for the remainder of the year
