School Council
Why do we have a School Council?
It gets the children involved in their own education.
Children learn to listen to others and understand that everyone has a right to be heard.
Children grow in self-esteem as they contribute to their class and school community.
Children learn self-confidence, social skills and responsible behaviour towards each other.
Our School Council is made up of two representatives from each class from P4 - P7. Every child gets a chance to stand for School Council and members of their class vote for the candidates they wish to represent them. A new School Council is formed biannually. This term our new School Council Representatives are:
P4 - Jack Galbraith Hollie Mitten
P5 - Victoria Kells Elinore Melarkey
P6 - Darcie Little Madeline Melarkey
P7 - Ben Graydon Beth Johnston
The elected members meet for regular meetings to discuss any issues brought forward from Class Council meetings, highlight any worries, concerns or problems. They discuss issues and ideas that need to be addressed at a whole school level. The Council members represent the views of their own class and then report back to their class on the outcomes and actions they have taken.
The Council works on various activities throughout the year.
The School Council is helped by Mrs Shaw. She provides guidance and advice to the members.
